Sara Sejin Chang

In a capitalistic world that is dominated by concepts of linear and infinite growth - Sara Sejin Chang sheds light on interwoven cycles of life and death through her 2014 film ‘The Garden’.

The film is a beautifully captured travelogue of seasons passing over a year-long period in her allotment garden in Amsterdam.

This meditative film showcases the change that is inherent in all of the natural worlds.

The theme of death and being inseparable from life is explored through her focus on decaying plant matter, leaves, and other garden inhabitants.

Chang’s perspective on the cyclic energy of our natural world helps us question and perhaps challenge the paradigm for which we exist.
